Visit your local technical college and see if there is a way for you to enroll. Tell them about your financial problems. You might ask local heating and air conditioning companies if they take on apprentices.
Try your local community college. Usually you will pay for books only. Seeing that you are low income you may even qualify for something. My brother went to City College here in San Diego & took an auto repair class, a refrigeration class of some sort.
