air conditioning filters
Randall P asked:

I have a probelm with my air conditioning. I set the temp on my thermostat at around 75-78 degrees. The other night I felt that it was cold in the house so I went to check out the thermostat and it said that it was 69 dgrees and the air conditioner was still running. What are possible causes to this – Broken Thermostat? Broken Air Conditioning Unit? Bad Filters? Thanks

central air conditioning
Dilbert asked:

What annual maintenance is recommended for a central A/C and how much does it cost?

Is it better to get it done early in the spring, before the A/C is even needed at all, or is it better to get it done in the early summer, when it starts to be needed, or is it better to get it done in the fall, after the cooling season is over?

air conditioning units
Maybaby asked:

Should there be a small amount of water coming from the base of the unit inside the house? I can’t figure out if it’s the air conditioning unit or a leaking water heater?

My wife and I just bought a duplex with central air in both sides (seperate units). Unfortunately our AC seems to not work well. It was 78 degrees in the house, about 77 degrees outside. We set the AC to cool to 75, and it took about 45 minutes. Sounds like a massive waste of electricity to me. Since I have installed AC units before (with my father) I know a little about them. I changed the filter and checked the registers. Only cool air is blowing out when it comes on. I’m hoping its not a freon issue, since I remember charging units, but I cant remember which of the three hoses on the gauges go to the unit and which one goes to the tank. Any suggestions/thoughts? Thanks!

I am looking to buy a home and would like to see how much central air would cost if the house did not come with it already.

air conditioning repair
suewilliamsaz asked:

My central air conditioner was not cooling down fast enough. I live in a dry climate. I assumed it might have been a freon leak. The AC repair man said the freon was at adeqate levels but said my coils needed to be cleaned. He charged me $250 to clean a 3 ton outdoor compressor unit which he did on the spot. After an hour he left. My AC is working even slower now. I thought clearning the coils would improve performance but now its worse. Any ideas or suggestions

Is there such a thing like a timer for a gas furnace and or what is the most effective way to have the furnace working more efficiently besides setting the thermostat very low? Thank you for your response.

air conditioning filters
KLAVEN_777 asked:

I recently moved into a new apartment complex. The air conditioning is quite loud, the apartment is brand new so it is not because the unit is old. The noise comes from the air filter, not the vents. I opened it up and it has a 10x30x1 filter. Behind the filter is about 12 inches of empty space, then the air conditioning unit. Are there air filters that reduce noise? 2nd, is there anything like loose foam I can place behind the filter to reduce the noise?
I removed the filter with the unit on. It is not the filter that creates the noise, but the air conditioner behind it. I searched the internet but found no air filters that act as sound insulation.

standard 8 ft ceiling) I would assume it’s about a 12% reduction in actual cubic footage and I was wondering if it would save you about that much in energy costs ?
